BODIE, CALIFORNIA
The ghost town of Bodie was named after William S. Bodie, who discovered gold here in 1859. By the 1880s, Bodie had a population of 10,000 and was known for its lawlessness. Only about 5% of the original town is still standing, and is maintained in a state of "arrested decay" by the California State Park service.
